The American
Livebearer Association (ALA) and Houston Livebearers Association (HLA) are
jointly sponsoring a livebearing fish Show in conjunction with their 2008
Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas, May 2nd through May 4th.
Exhibitor Qualifications: The Show is open to any registered
aquarist. ALA or HLA membership is not required for registration/entry.
Exhibitors must be registered in time to complete entry set up by 1:00 PM
Saturday, May 3rd. Registration/set up will commence Friday 8:00 AM,
May 2nd. See the Convention Schedule for details concerning
registration/set up times. There is no limit on the number of entries per
Exhibitor.
Entry Qualifications: The Show is open to entries of
livebearing fishes which fit into one of the categories in the attached Show
Classes. Each entry is limited to a single Class. Only one entry is permitted
per tank unless the tank is equipped with a divider and both entries are in the
same Class. All entries must be set up during the time allotted for set up in
the Convention Schedule. The Entry Fee per entry is $3.00.
There is a
separate class for entries of livebearer photography. All photography must be
of living fish and must have been taken by the Exhibitor.
Equipment:
Containers: Exhibitors may use Exhibitor-provided
containers if desired. All entries shall be displayed in flat-sided containers.
The containers must be bare and without plants or decorations. No containers
over 10 gallons are allowed without prior approval and agreement by the Show
Director. Plastic show tanks (two-gallon, covered specimen tanks) are available
from the Show Director on a first-come, first-served basis for Exhibitors.
Stands: ALA/HLA will provide tables (stands) for the containers.
Air: ALA will provide air adjacent to each container. ALA/HLA
will also provide airline. The Exhibitor will provide his/her own air stones,
box filters, or sponge filters. The Exhibitor also is responsible for providing
his/her own air valves for air regulation. No open airlines are allowed.
Lighting: No supplemental lighting is allowed.
Heating: No supplemental heaters are allowed. The room will be
maintained at a minimum of 70ºF.
Water: Exhibitors may bring their own water. There will be a
limited amount of de-chlorinated city water available in the Show Room.
Glass Cleaners: No window cleaners are allowed in the
Show Room.
Show Rules: All entries will be under the full
control of the Show Director and will remain so for the duration of the Show.
Entries can be broken down only during the time allotted in the Convention
Schedule. Early or late breakdowns are not allowed without prior approval by
the Show Director. Items not claimed by the end of the Show tear down period as
set forth in the Convention Schedule become the property of the ALA/HLA. The
ALA, HLA and the Hotel will not be responsible for any loss or damage incurred
during the Show. Exhibitor tampering with the entry of any other Exhibitor is
forbidden.
Judging:
Livestock Classes: Show judging will be closed to the
Exhibitors and public and will be conducted on Saturday at a time set forth in
the Convention Schedule. Judging shall be done by the Judging Director and
appointed Judges. The standards as to classification and the fitness of each
entry shall be determined by the Judges whose decisions are final and not
subject to appeal.
Photography Class: Show judging will be closed to the
Exhibitors and public and will be conducted on Saturday at a time set forth in
the Convention Schedule. Judging shall be done by the Judging Director and
appointed Judges. Judging will be based on art, technical skill, and the
ability of the Judges to identify the subjects. The Judges’ decisions are final
and not subject to appeal.
Awards: Plaques will be awarded for first, second
and third places in each Class.

Joanne Norton Award – Best domestic livebearer
Robert Rush Miller Award – Best wild-type (species) livebearer,
non-Goodeid
Frances Hubbs Miller Award – Best Goodeid
Youth Award – Best by an entrant under 18 years of age.
Chairman’s Award – Most points accumulated in show,
with 4 points for each 1st place, 2 for each 2nd place and 1
point for each 3rd place.
